Wootonekanuska – Mother to Metacomet’s 9 year-old son, she’s every bit as powerful and revered as Metacomet and sachems within the tribal system. Her tactical and leadership skills are legendary among the Wampanoag and regional tribes. Her life is snuffed out near the end of the war. An indication of her status among the regional natives? Her head, too, is positioned on a large stake overlooking Plymouth colony.
