“I am determined not to live until i have no country”

Metacomet, aka “King Philip”- The son of the man who welcomed the Pilgrims and brokered peace for thirty years, Metacomet inherits a conspicuous mantle as the anglicized King of the New England Natives – this after his older brother is allegedly poisoned by the United Colonies shortly after assuming his “crown”. Metacomet is suspicious of all colonizers; he is innately political and shrewd, but can only take so much. A trusted advisor betrays Metacomet in 1674. Metacomet orders the execution of the advisor and leaves his corpse exposed just enough to get the attention of Governor Winslow and others. They respond by publicly hanging prominent natives. Philip will artfully lead a promising beginning to the war that assumes his name, and his ignominious death will represent the plight of modern indigenous people for years to come.
